Safer Cities - Her Way 2680

Banna Lane Festival is proud to support Griffith City Council with the Her Way Project. Our role is to facilitate the creation of public artwork within the focus areas of Griffith CBD.

BACKGROUND

We are proud to be working with the Griffith City Council on delivering public art outcomes for their 'Her Way' project. The Her Way project has been funded by Transport NSW as part of the Safer Cities Program which is aimed to help improve perceptions of safety in our cities and towns, particularly for women, girls, and gender diverse people.

This is exciting for us as we get to extend the public art footprint beyond the laneway into different areas of the CBD and help support the program's key initiatives which is the development of public artwork.

ARTIST REQUIREMENTS

Artists applying to develop public artwork for our 2024 program should be aware of the differences between the programs

1. Availability and Timeline - Both programs

The artist must be available for these dates and work to the following timeline;

All walls must be completed by no later than Friday 3rd May 2024, this is to align with the official launch event

Artists should be ready to commence on Monday 23rd April 2024, allowing 10 days to paint, and for any weather delays during this period, except for the largest wall (page 6), we will work with artists to determine the best time to arrive to commence working on this.

2. Artists Fee - Vary between the programs

The fee varies per site, this is due to the size and surface of each of the buildings/structures being

painted, as well as the design approval process. The artist fee has been determined by Banna Lane Festival. Artists will receive 50% of their artist fee on the first day of painting, and the 50% balance on the conclusion.

3. Materials - Both programs

Once artists are chosen, and their artwork approved, orders will then be placed through our existing suppliers - Inspirations Paint, Griffith, and Montana Cans. If an artist has pre-existing contracts with other paint companies or insists on using a specific brand, please advise during the shortlist process and we will work with you.

4. Equipment Budget - Both programs

This component of the budget will be managed by the organisers, artists just need to be aware of what they will need for the wall/site and flag any equipment requirements upfront.

5. Travel Allowance/Expenses - Both programs

Both programs aim to cover most of the travel costs, within limitations and will work with the artists on these plans on a case-by-case basis.

6. Artwork Theme

All designs must be pre-approved before commencing however the Banna Lane Festival walls have always and will continue to allow artists to guide their ideas. Her Way walls may already be assigned a theme/subject to help guide the design and will require approval. See more details on the following pages.
